About Second Screen Archive
I’m Oliver, also known as Ollistration—a pixel artist fascinated by what artists create within technical limits.
Why I started the archive
The Dreamcast arrived during my formative years. I loved the idea that a game could extend beyond the console and into everyday life. The VMU did that for me: it expanded console games and became part of my teenage routine. Its artwork left a lasting impression.
I wanted to study the artists who made those images, but struggled to find reliable sources gathered in one place. After working to recover Soulcalibur’s sprites, I felt that the results should be available to other artists and preservationists too. That became the starting point for Second Screen Archive.
The Dreamcast represents the end of an era for Sega. Preserving its second-screen artwork—and exploring related work on PocketStation—is my way of paying homage to the designers, artists, developers, and fans who made these experiences matter. They deserve a fuller picture of that history.
What you can explore
The archive currently covers 34 game collections: 27 for the Dreamcast VMU and 7 for Sony’s PocketStation. Browse selected images in the galleries, or download the available exports and notes in each collection’s ZIP. Browsing and downloads are free.
There are 26,587 exported image files across the collections. This includes frames, variants, previews, and contact sheets—not 26,587 unique artworks. A complete ZIP means the available collection, not proof that every graphic in a game has been recovered.
How I check the artwork
I extract artwork from game resources, compare exported pixels with source data, and investigate decoding or display routines where feasible. Collection notes identify the checks actually performed and the remaining limits. Runtime behavior is only treated as verified when supported by emulator or hardware evidence.
Animations assembled for browsing are labeled illustrative when their original timing has not been established. Source groups distinguish retail-disc material, bonus files, and compilation extras.
